The Cultural Economy Catalytic Grants is part of the Northern Region Archaeotourism Network & Local Economic Development, a Think City programme under the auspices of the Ministry of Finance.
The second cycle of the programme opens 23 August 2022 and closes 4 October 2022. Announcement of grantees will take place from 1 November 2022 onwards.
Individuals, collectives and organisations nationwide who have an interest or are actively involved in contributing to the development of Malaysian culturally significant sites are welcome to apply. We are encouraging applications that highlight artisans and living trades, nature and ecosystem, geology, primary industries and early history.
The Creative KL Grants Programme seeks to support projects associated to six themes:
Empowering local communities by upskilling and community programmes to contribute to social and economic activities.
Showcasing innovative solutions and best practices to restore, conserve and preserve publicly accessible historical and cultural assets.
Curating, compiling, publishing and interpreting information that can amplify the visibility of culturally significant sites.
A unique incentive for you to play an active role in transforming Downtown Kuala Lumpur into a vibrant, celebrated and resilient city.

Can international applicants apply for this grant?
This grant is open to individuals, community-based organisations and non-governmental organisations who have an interest or are actively involved in contributing to the development of Malaysian cultural sites.

Can I still apply for this grant even though I am not staying in the focus sites?
As long as your proposal targets the community within the focus sites and is aligned with the themes mentioned above, you are welcome to submit an application.

We have already received funding from another programme. Are we still eligible to apply?
Yes! Please state the secured funding from other sources in the budget template of the application form and provide a letter of interest as evidence.

Can individuals or partnerships of two or more organisations apply for the grant?
Yes! you are eligible to apply for the grant.

Can we submit two applications for the same grant cycle?
We encourage one application per applicant. All application approvals are based on project merit and relevance.

How long do we have to complete our proposed project?
Completion date is determined case by case.

Are we allowed to submit an appeal if our application is rejected?
All decisions made by the grants management team is final.

How much funding can I apply for from this grant?
All project funding will be considered on a case-by-case basis and will be assessed based on project output and project outcome.

Does the grant fully fund our project?
The grant is designed to help supplement your project funding and does not support operational costs such as administrative or overhead costs. However, we highly suggest our applicants to source for co-funding partners for their proposed projects.

Can we use this grant to pay employee salary or to pay for rent of my business premises?
No. This grant programme aims to fund seed projects that will aid in the long-term growth and resilience of the focus sites. It is to empower individuals or organisations to play an active role in building better and more sustainably.
